Meet the Nurses

Sarah Toase

Diploma VN, Nurse Manager

  • “I suppose you can say I've been around the block a bit; from vet nursing to practice management and now vet nurse manager for the amazing Marshall & Pringle nursing team. I qualified in the UK many years ago and have lots of experience across many aspects of veterinary nursing.

I still enjoy all aspects of the role; however, I have a particular interest in nursing consults and preventative care & nutrition. I have also completed a diploma in animal acupuncture.

When I'm not here at work, I can be found helping out on the family farm rearing cattle & spending time with my own pets which includes a horse, dogs & Squeak the cat (who thinks he's one of the dogs!) To relax I enjoy gardening & reading.”

  • “I was born and raised in Kaiapoi so am a true community girl at heart and know a lot of our clients well. I completed my National Certificate of Veterinary Nursing at CPIT in 2004 and have been at M&P ever since, so I am a familiar face to many. I love all aspects of the job. I have a special interest in nursing medical patients to provide them with a high standard of care and comfort and I like nursing complex surgical cases.

Outside the clinic I’m kept busy with my two young boys Lincoln and Fletcher and by helping my partner Nick on our 20-acre block. I have 2 feline furbabies – Henry and Frankie as well as some sheep and cattle.”

  • “You will find me at reception to welcome you and your fur babies to the clinic. I love getting the dogs excited to be here before they go into consultations – the vets really appreciate it when they’re bouncing off the walls (as you can imagine!) I’m a familiar face to most as I have worked with the M+P team since 2012. I love to have a catch up with you, find out how you’re doing whilst you’re in the waiting room, and dish out lots of treats and pats to your pets.”

  • “I have been part of the M+P team for the majority of my nursing career. I gained my Certificate of Veterinary nursing in 2012 at ARA. I have a special love and affinity for Greyhounds, and many clients know my Greyhound Rex for his life-saving blood donations! My biggest passions are client care, surgery, being super tidy and training new nurses. I am also the social media manager for the clinic and run our Instagram, Facebook and website blog pages.

Outside of work my husband Greg and I are full time pet parents to our 2 cats Toulouse and Chirley, 3 horses Bailey, Syd and Maximus, and 3 Alpacas Inti, Adalina and Sofia. You’ll often find me out in the fresh air walking and spending time with the animals, and I love to travel and plan the next holiday!”

  • “My passion lies in emergency work and hospital patient care, so I spend most of my time behind the scenes which is why you may not see my face as often as others. I also have a massive soft spot for the geriatric patients. I not only perform my clinical roles to a high standard, but I ensure I’m by your pet’s side to give them some home comfort; that could be sitting in a kennel and stroking a dog to encourage them to eat something, some gentle pats when they come round from anaesthesia, or giving a cat a gentle face wash because a dressing or collar prevents them from grooming themselves and they are happier when clean. I am proud to know a lot of our clients by their voice on the phone and enjoy the client care side of my position too”.

  • “I came back to veterinary nursing in 2020 after a career break to focus on having a family. I rejoined the M+P team and am enjoying building on my knowledge and skills in a rapidly advancing field. I have a great sense of pride in my work and am meticulous when it comes to keeping the clinic organised and your pets well cared for. I ensure they feel safe and happy in a clean and comfortable kennel and get lots of love and attention. I tend to find myself cleaning up after the young ones and those messy vets, but someone must keep the ship in shape. I’m also fearless when it comes to holding onto those pets with a strong will!

I enjoy tramping and family holidays to the Abel Tasman. At home I chase Dobby the kitten I rescued from M+P down my hallways and off the curtains, and I have Storm the cat who is personality plus.”

  • “I started at Marshall and Pringle in March 2021 after gaining my diploma in veterinary nursing. I really love hands-on nursing, especially anything that involves looking down a microscope, taking bloods, or assisting the vets with x-rays or scans. I’m by your pet’s side while they have these procedures and ensuring they are safe and handled gently throughout. When I am not at work, I am kept busy with a whole tribe of fur babies, many of which I have rescued through the clinic. They include 5 dogs (Franklin, Lola, Louie, Luna and Peaches), 4 guinea pigs (Patsy, Pumpkin, Sunday and Moccona), 3 rabbits (Marshall, Pringle and Klover), 3 cats (Eve, Marbles and Floki), 3 birds (Abdul, Max and Raj), 3 rats (Noodle, Vader and Romeo), and a few pond fish! Phew! I’m certainly kept busy at home and at work and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
