Acupuncture

Acupuncture works through the nervous system. The fine needles block pain messages and encourage the brain and central nervous system to produce more of the body’s natural painkillers.

Acupuncture is very safe, in the right hands. Cathy has been trained, and is well practised in veterinary acupuncture, and can offer it as part of a multi-modal treatment plan, that may include nutritional supplements, medications, physiotherapy, and weight loss.

Most pets will accept the fine needles well, and often become relaxed and sleepy during the treatment. In addition to decreased pain and improved mobility, acupuncture patients often show improved energy and are more interactive at home.

A typical initial acupuncture treatment plan involves four once weekly sessions lasting 30 minutes. The pet’s response is assessed over this time period and then sessions may be repeated at various monthly intervals as necessary.
