Dentistry is a very important component of pet health care at Marshall & Pringle Petmed. An alarming number of dogs and cats are found to have bad teeth. The good news is that veterinary dental technology is advancing rapidly, and there are many ways to ensure our pets maintain healthy teeth.
Dental Disease
A common cause of dental disease is plaque and tartar build-up. This tartar and associated germs can cause painful gums and can even lead to the loss of teeth. Infection from the mouth can spread in the blood to other parts of the body, with life threatening consequences.
Signs of dental problems:
- Pain, pawing at mouth
- Bad breath
- Trouble chewing or reduced eating
- Dribbling
- Discoloured or broken teeth
- Inflamed gums
- Weight loss
- A preference for soft food
If you're pet has any of these signs then come in and see us!
We have a dedicated dental area at the clinic where dentistry is performed under general anaesthesia. We have a modern IM3 dental unit which incorporates ultrasonic scaling, polishing, a high speed drill and water/air flushing capabilities. In 2019, we installed a state-of-the-art digital dental xray machine.
